Copy Editing
What is Copy Editing?
Copy editing is all about refining your manuscript line by line to enhance clarity, flow, and accuracy. It's the stage where we smooth out any distracting errors that might pull your reader out of the story.
Our copy editing service checks for:
-
Spelling, grammar, and punctuation errors
-
Consistency (e.g. hyphenation, capitalisation, and character names)
-
Repeated words or phrases
-
Clunky sentence structure or awkward phrasing
-
Missing or unclear information
What's the Process?
We use Microsoft Word's Track Changes feature to edit your manuscript, making it easy for you to see every adjustment. You'll be able to accept or reject individual edits with a click. If anything needs further discussion or clarification, we'll leave a comment for you to review.
When the edit is complete, you'll receive:
-
A tracked version showing all edits
-
A clean version ready to read or submit
We work collaboratively, ensuring your voice remains central to the story while enhancing its readability and consistency.
What Does It Cost?
Copy editing is priced per project, with a typical range of £0.01–£0.015 per word, depending on the level of editing required. To give you a clear idea of what to expect, we offer a free 1,000-word sample edit for all clients.
Once the sample is complete, we'll provide an accurate quote and you can secure your booking with a 50% non-refundable deposit. Flexible payment plans are also available.
We're committed to affordability and will always recommend the most cost-effective route for your manuscript. If we feel developmental editing would be more beneficial at this stage, we'll advise you before any payment is made—with guidance and support at every step.

On a tight budget?
We're here to help. We can tailor our services—for instance, editing the first 10,000 words with a follow-up consultation to help you carry the improvements through the rest of your manuscript.
